For Buyers
How does BuyCar work for buyers?
Browse verified car listings from verified dealers. When you find a car you're interested in, click "I'm Interested" to begin the process. You'll pay a ₦50,000 security deposit, and BuyCar will release the dealer's direct contact details to you by email. You then negotiate and complete the purchase directly with the dealer.
Why do I have to pay a deposit just to get the dealer's contact?
The ₦50,000 deposit filters out time-wasters and protects dealers from hundreds of non-serious enquiries. It is a security deposit — not a purchase — and is fully refundable if the car is no longer available or its condition doesn't match the listing.
Are the cars on BuyCar verified?
We verify the dealers, not each individual car. Every dealer on BuyCar is manually reviewed before their profile goes live. Listings with misleading information are removed when reported. We always recommend an independent pre-purchase inspection before buying.
Can I get a refund of my ₦50,000 deposit?
Yes. You get a full refund if the car is no longer available or BuyCar cannot release contact details within 48 hours. You get a 50% refund if you withdraw after contact details have been released. See our Refund Policy for full details.
What is Tokunbo (foreign used)?
Tokunbo refers to vehicles imported into Nigeria, typically from the United States, Canada, or Europe, where they were previously owned. They are generally considered higher quality than locally used cars of the same age.
What payment methods are accepted?
We accept card payments and bank transfers through Paystack — one of Nigeria's most trusted payment gateways. We do not accept cash payments through the platform.
For Dealers
How do I become a dealer on BuyCar?
Register at /register?type=dealer with your business name, phone number, and government-issued ID. Our team reviews and verifies your profile before activation, usually within 24 hours.
How much does it cost to list on BuyCar?
There are three tiers: Basic (entry-level, monthly subscription with a listing quota), Premium (higher quota, 90-day listing duration, KYC verification badge), and Elite (highest quota, 120-day duration, top placement). Visit the pricing page in your dashboard for current rates.
How many cars can I list?
This depends on your tier. Basic dealers get a limited quota, Premium dealers get more, and Elite dealers have the highest allowance. Upgrade your plan from the Dashboard to increase your quota.
How do I get notified when a buyer is interested?
You'll receive an SMS and email notification when a buyer pays the deposit and wants your contact details. Make sure your phone number is always up to date in your dashboard.
Can I list spare parts as well as cars?
Yes. Dealers can list both car listings and spare parts from the dashboard. Each operates independently with its own stock management.
Spare Parts
Do you ship spare parts nationwide?
Yes. Spare parts are shipped nationwide by the individual dealers. Shipping rates and timelines vary by dealer and location. Estimated delivery is shown at checkout.
What if I receive the wrong or damaged part?
Contact support@buycar.ng within 7 days of delivery with your order number and photos. We'll mediate with the dealer for a replacement or refund. See our Refund Policy for full details.
Mechanics
Are the mechanics on BuyCar verified?
Yes. All mechanics go through an identity verification and profile review before being listed. We verify their identity and location — you should still review their profile, ratings, and description before booking.
Can I use BuyCar mechanics for a pre-purchase inspection?
Absolutely. We recommend getting an independent inspection before any used car purchase. Use the Mechanics section to find a mechanic near the dealer.
Account & Technical
How do I delete my account?
Email support@buycar.ng from your registered email address and request account deletion. We'll process it within 7 days. Active dealer subscriptions are not refunded on self-termination.
I forgot my password — how do I reset it?
Click "Login" then "Forgot password?" and enter your registered email. You'll receive a reset link within a few minutes. Check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive.
Is my payment information safe?
Yes. All payments are processed by Paystack, which is PCI-DSS Level 1 compliant — the highest standard in payment security. BuyCar never stores your card details.
